History

The National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW) was founded in 1935 by Mary McLeod Bethune, widely recognized as a distinguished educator. She envisioned NCNW to be an "organization of organizations" that would represent the national and international concerns of Black women. NCNW would also give Black women the opportunity to realize their goals for social justice and human rights through united, constructive action.

NCNW is a nonprofit membership organization with 39 national affiliates and more than 240 sections, NCNW has an outreach to nearly four million women. Our mission is to lead, develop and advocate for women of African descent as they support their families and communities.

*For information regarding the national level or any other collegiate section please visit the national website. On December 2, 2009, after 74 years of hard work and dedication, the dream materialized on the University of South Florida campus by nearly 50 highly educated and classy young women. NCNW USF’s goal is to continue on the legacy by educating, enriching and empowering women of color within the university community and the surrounding Tampa Bay area. We have many events and activities planned for this upcoming semester and look forward to your participation! We hope that you enjoy our page and find it exceptionally informative and educational. Please visit often for updates and upcoming news! Again, thank you for visiting our page!
